April Ross
April Ross is only one of only a handful of beach volleyball athletes to win medals at least twice in an Olympics. Alix-Klineman is set to compete alongside April Ross in Tokyo to win her third gold medal in the coming days. More than that though Ross is aiming to capture the first Olympic gold. At 39, this could be her last chance to win the Olympic gold. But she's convinced that winning the gold medal is in reach. Ross told NBC Boston that if they perform at their very best, or even a good game her team can win a gold medal. "I'm also going to try to have a bit of luck." Ross was born on the 22, 1982, in Costa Mesa California. She resided in the area with her family. Ross competed in many sports while attending Newport Harbor High School. The prep sports she played included indoor volleyball along with basketball, track and running. She stood out however during this game. When she played in her time at the high school level in her university bio, she was an outside-hitter, middle-blocker and setter. Her efforts were recognized when she was named 1999 Gatorade's Circle of Champions National players of the year. The year 2000 was the time she won an Orange County Athlete of the of the year for volleyball. Ross is currently working with Klineman from 2017 but her beach game had been established long before this. She's won big competitions with different players. A couple of those is an iconic player in the world of volleyball. From 2007 until 2013, she was partnered with Jennifer Kessy, who is currently her coach. Together together with Kessy, Ross won an Olympic Title in 2009 when she competed in the international circuit. They won a Silver Medal in the 2012 Olympic Games held in London. Misty May, Kerri Walsh and Kerri Jennings were the group to beat for the gold. Ross Jennings became Walsh Jennings partner in fate as Maytreanor resigned. Together, they won bronze medals in beach volleyball for the Rio Olympics in the year 2016. Ross was a player for the USC Trojans in the college years following her graduation from the high school she attended. It was a successful career for Ross in the university. In 2000, as a freshman Her performance was rewarded with the Pac-10 and NCAA the Freshman of the Year award. Additionally, she was an integral player for helping the Trojans make the Final Four. Her personal life was tense after a devastating loss during her sophomore year, but was still capable of achieving the All-American title. Through her two final years in the Trojans team, she led the Trojans to winning a national title every year. Individually she had cemented her place as a legend by winning the 2003-2004 Honda Sports Award as the nation's top female collegiate volleyball player. Ross was an international relations major at USC. Unfortunately, Ross mother Margie did not get to see Ross rise to the top levels of beach volleyball fame. Ross lost the breast cancer that she battled in the year 2001. Ross was then a sophomore. Ross is still awed by her late parent. Margie has been an inspiration throughout her life, as well as on the beaches.
